We are #historyrebels: our core values for a better life

As a member of The Tribe, you've probably seen our tagline: We are #historyrebels. At Celtic WebMerchant, we have developed the History Rebels concept based on core values that are central to our company and, what we notice, to many customers and to ourselves, and on the basis of which we organize our lives. A life that often deviates from the social norm and in which we ourselves find great happiness. These core values are: freedom, meaning, depth, knowledge of history and heritage, respect for heritage, slower living and attention for nature. How can you shape your life based on these core values?

Freedom

It is important that we as human beings are free, as long as we do not harm others. For us, freedom means that you can be who you want to be, even if you deviate from the norm or what others see as normal. Hobbies such as LARP, reenactment, living history and fantasy festivals are sometimes seen as weird or deviant by the outside world. But because more and more people are embracing freedom, these kinds of hobbies are increasingly gaining a place in society. As a company we support the charity Stop Bullying Now, because bullying goes against someone's potential to be free. Be free to disregard what others say about your appearance and way of life and live your life as it feels right for you, as long as you don't harm others. Use your creativity to tell your own story and create a character.

Meaning

Modern life has beautiful sides, but there are also major disadvantages, such as a lack of meaning. It sometimes seems as if we only live to work, earn money and pay taxes like good citizens. Many people are therefore looking for more meaning in life. To give your life more meaning, it helps to look at what is really important to you and focus on that. Have you wanted to start a different hobby for a long time or do you notice that your friends no longer fit you so that you never have a good conversation? It's never too late to turn your life around and make it more meaningful.

Depth

Modern life sometimes lacks depth. This sometimes arises because you spend all day with people you don't have much in common with and you only talk about superficial things. There are also simply many people who are mainly interested in material things because society revolves around status and prestige. If you want to create more depth, it is important to surround yourself with people with whom you have a shared hobby or interest. Be interested in the world and try to delve into multiple topics.

Live slower

We often find that as humans we have become increasingly alienated from a more meaningful and slower way of life due to the demands of modern society. And that we set for ourselves. We have a lot to do: work, earn money, obligations and sometimes there is no opportunity to take the time for anything. In your spare time, try to spend quality time with loved ones. For example, try to avoid screens on weekends and take time for your hobbies and do something fun with friends or loved ones. Don't let the things you should be doing drive you crazy, but make time for the things you want to do.

Attention for nature

To achieve a slower life, it is also important to be in nature more often. Nature is healthy for a person: walking and being in nature improves your mental health and reduces stress. Also, a walk in nature is a beautiful and free way to spend quality time with loved ones, or friends. In modern society we have become far too alienated from nature, while our ancestors were much more dependent on nature and had much more knowledge of it. We believe it is important to bridge this gap. That is why, as a member of The Tribe, you can also donate your discount points to Scottish Wildlife Trust, when you do not use the points. Knowledge of history and heritage

We believe that knowledge of history can help us to be happier in modern life by putting our life in an age-long perspective. If you know history, then you know yourself and the world around you. Everything that happens has a historical precedent and can be explained with historical examples. Try to learn more about a historical period that interests you, and see if you notice parallels with events in the modern world. Or see if there are modern problems that have been handled differently in the past. Learn from the people who have gone before you and think about what they could have learned from you.

Do you agree with the core values of History Rebels? Maybe you can call yourself a History Rebel! Try to organize your life more this way and see if this makes you happier.
