Degreasing historical cookware

When just bought, most pans, kettles and tripods will be heavily greased. This is to make sure the material won’t dry out and rust while in storage or being shipped.

Before the first use, this grease needs to be removed.

The grease can easily be washed off using warm water and dishwashing detergent, as this is a degreasing cleaning supply. You can use a scouring pad or, if needed, a wire brush.

Another way of removing the grease is by burning the item clean on the campfire. You can also remove any rust using this method.
