Product description

This thread spool is a replica of a 16th century original found in the Tudor flagship The Mary Rose. This thread spool consists of two parts so that two types of thread could be wound. The inside is hollow, like the historic bobbin of the Mary Rose, and closed with a wooden stopper. This allows you to store multiple sewing needles so they don't get lost. The Mary Rose was an English warship built in Portsmouth between 1509 and 1511 AD. As early as 1545, the Mary Rose sank in the Solent, a branch of the English Channel, during a naval battle against the French in the context of the Italian War of 1542-1546. The wreck, part of which is excellently preserved, was recovered in 1982 and can now be visited in Portsmouth Harbour. Approximately 19,000 objects were recovered from the wreck of the Mary Rose, including 137 yew longbows, numerous medical instruments and a large number of the sailors' household items and personal artefacts.
