Mix&Match budget: Pirate woman

Mix&Match budget: Pirate woman

When you're just starting out in the world of historical and fantasy costumes, it can be challenging to figure out how to put together your outfit. Moreover, the costs can add up considerably if you still need to buy everything, especially if you don't have any items to fall back on yet.

Therefore, in this blog, we want to present three basic pirate options. Although buying your first outfit is always a significant investment, we've ensured that all looks remain under €200 to keep costs manageable. We have deliberately chosen not to recommend specific shoes for these looks. Shoes can take a big chunk out of your budget, while often they can easily be replaced by a modern alternative. With a simple pair of boots from a thrift store or a budget shoe store, you can go a long way, allowing you to save up for investing in authentic shoes at a later time.

Most of the clothing items we've used in these looks are available in various colors. This allows you to mix and match items from different ensembles or choose a different color that suits your taste.

Look 1

For the first pirate look, we've opted for a black, off-shoulder blouse. This type of blouse is versatile and can be combined with various looks, both historical and fantasy.

With a pirate costume for women, you have two options. You can keep it more feminine by using a skirt, but you can also opt for a tougher, more masculine look by using pants. In this first ensemble, we've chosen a red skirt.

The combination of just a blouse and skirt doesn't make it a pirate outfit, of course. To imbue the outfit with a pirate feel, we've worked with a few accessories.

To start, we've added a belt to the outfit. This belt is relatively simple but has a nice touch with the double ring detail. Hanging from the belt, we've included a sailor's spyglass in a pouch. Additionally, we've used the traditional tricorn pirate hat.

Look 2

The second pirate look starts with another blouse. Like the first one, this blouse can be worn off-shoulder. The difference with the first blouse is that this blouse has longer sleeves with a puff at the top. Similar to the first blouse, this style is easy to incorporate into various looks.

For this second look, we've chosen to go for a tougher look by adding pants. These pants feature multiple button details and laces at the bottom of the trouser leg.

To further accessorize this outfit and give it a more pirate-like feel, we've chosen to add a vest as well. This type of vest is often seen being used in pirate costumes.

In this ensemble, we've used only one accessory since we've incorporated one more garment than in the first look.

This accessory is a brown belt with a large, decorated buckle. This belt is perfect for a pirate costume.

Look 3

The final look in this blog is a more luxurious version of a pirate outfit.

We've started again with a blouse. This blouse has a different neckline than the first two, with bow details on the chest.

We've paired this blouse with black pants. It's a fairly simple design with a cord closure.

To create a completely different look, we've added a pirate jacket to this ensemble. These types of jackets are often associated with the pirate captain.

Just like in the second look, we've used only a belt as an accessory, since we've already included three garments.

This time, it's a simple black belt.

Additional options

If you have a more generous budget, you can always complement these looks with shoes or additional accessories.

The shoes we've used for the photos are the Pirate Boots in black and brown. You can find other shoe options here.

If you prefer to further complement with accessories first, here are some good options:
