The absolute highlight of the year is when the festival season starts after a long cold winter and the spring sun shows itself. I have been visiting medieval & fantasy festivals and events every year for 18 years. Do you also love going to these kinds of festivals?
Combine a festival with a vacation!
Festivals in your own country are always great. But experiencing a festival or event abroad is also a special experience! They can also be combined with a holiday or road trip through your neighboring countries. Last year I thought it would be fun to visit the fairly new English festival 'Fantasy Forest' and I looked up some beautiful places to visit in the area. In the end I made a wonderful road trip of less than a week to Colchester, Saffron Walden, Stratford Upon Avon, the Cotswolds and Oxford. I slept in special old buildings of the YHA (Youth Hostel Association). Cheap but very special! It's also just great fun to experience a festival abroad where everything is slightly different from the festivals you already know.
Or combine a city trip with your hobby
Comic Cons are usually held in big cities. How great is it to visit an event like Brussels Comic Con! This way you can enjoy a beautiful city full of museums, and spend quality time on your hobby. The Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig is also an ideal way to combine a city trip with a festival. A dream trip that I would like to make is a city trip to New York in combination with a visit to the New York Renaissance Faire. This is quite different from the festivals we are used to in Europe!
