Pattens are wooden shoes that were worn beneath the turn shoes in the Middle Ages. The reason for this was that the roads in cities were often filthy and not hardened. Nowadays pattens can well be used for protection from asphalt and gravel.
This pair of pattens is made of a piece of wood and goat leather.
