Product description

These ankle-high leather shoes are based on archaeological finds from the English city of York, which was known as Jorvik in the early Middle Ages. The shoes date back to the 9th to 10th century, a time when England was divided into small kingdoms and frequently ravaged by Viking raids. During this turbulent period, many Vikings settled permanently in England. Jorvik, now modern-day York, was conquered by Danish Vikings in 866 AD and developed into a major Viking stronghold. The city grew into a thriving trade center with connections across Europe. Archaeological discoveries in York — including these shoe models — offer a unique glimpse into the daily lives of the people who lived there.

These shoes are therefore ideal for Viking reenactment, but also suit early medieval characters. They are fastened with two distinctive toggle buttons, which are both historically accurate and practical. If desired, the toggles can be replaced with horn or bone versions — materials that were commonly used in the Viking Age. The sole is made of smooth leather and features a small heel, as was typical for shoes from this period. These shoes combine historical authenticity with comfort, making them perfect for reenactors, LARPers, or anyone passionate about early medieval clothing.

Maintenance & care
Just as with weaponry, you can care for your shoes and leatherware by applying a little Ballistol after cleaning. This prevents the leather from drying out.

When packaging this item, we exclusively use 100% recycled plastic and recycled paper/cardboard from FSC certified forests. We reuse a large part of the material directly without the intervention of a recycling process.
Recycle the material by separating your waste:
1. Cardboard: separate or reuse your paper.
2. Plastic cushions, clothing bags and plastic tape: separate or reuse your plastic. If possible, pierce the cushions with a volume reduction needle.
3. Paper packaging for jewelry and small items: these have a plastic inner layer. Remove these, then separate your paper and plastic.
