Product description

Viking ships, used between approximately 789 and 1100, were masterpieces of timber construction essential to Viking expansion, trade, warfare, and culture. Key types included the longship or drakar (for war and transport), the knarr (cargo ship), and the karve (a smaller coastal vessel). These ships were light, strong, and flexible, with a shallow draft that allowed them to navigate both at sea and on rivers. Their clinker-riveted wooden hulls and seaworthy shape made them exceptionally fast and maneuverable. Famous finds such as the Gokstad ship, the Oseberg ship, and the Skuldelev ships demonstrate their refined construction and impressive seaworthiness.

Their construction required high-quality timber, wrought-iron rivets, and thousands of hours of labor. Viking ships were often richly decorated with carvings and served not only as a means of transportation but also as a symbol of status and power—even in death, when prominent Vikings were buried in ships. Thanks to these innovative ships, the Vikings were able to reach new territories from Russia to North America, leaving a lasting influence on technology, art, and maritime history.

This drinking horn is ideal for a costume or reenactment of a prominent Viking, and is great for drinking beer or cold mead at festivals. In winter, you can use it as a decorative piece at home or for making offerings at your home altar.
