Horseshoe brooches were worn by Northern European peoples in the early Middle Ages. Both the Vikings and the Celts in Ireland and Scotland wore this type of fibulae. This horseshoe fibula is made after an original found in the 8th century Gaelic hillfort of Dunadd in Scotland.
