Product description

This spatha is based on material remains of various third-century original spathas excavated in Podlodów (Poland) in the region of Przeworsk culture. Several blades of the Podlodów type have been found along the Limes. They were presumably forged in Rome and spread throughout the empire by the Roman armies. This spatha has a fairly wide blade compared to the second century spathae, the blade has two fullers. It is presumably designed for close combat. This spatha is a great asset for collectors, with a beautiful wooden hilt that is decorated with brass rings in the grip, guard and pommel. The pommel is screwed. It is delivered including a luxurious red leather scabbard with a wooden core. The scabbard has a beautiful brass belt loop (for belts up to 5 cm wide) and brass decorations on the top and bottom. The scabbard is also decorated with strong black cord wrapped around the leather, this creates a beautiful authentic effect.

Prevent rust and corrosion by oiling your weapons regularly. Remove rust easily with black sandpaper. Remove burrs with a whetstone. Make sure you have removed all burrs before using a battle-ready weapon, as they can cause wounds.

Maintenance & care
Just as with weaponry, you can care for your shoes and leatherware by applying a little Ballistol after cleaning. This prevents the leather from drying out.

Sharpening service

This item is semi-sharp and designed for decorative purposes. It can be made razor sharp at a surcharge. When using the sharpening service, the return right and warranty expires. The extra delivery time is approx. 2 weeks.

Blunting service

The blade of this sword can be blunted (2,5-3 mm) at a surcharge. Please note: although the thickness will be the same as a battle-ready sword, the return right and warranty expires when using the blunting service. Please contact us if you wish to use the blunting service, or make a note at the last step of your shiopping cart. The extra delivery time is approx. 2 weeks.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.

Please note. After finishing the product yourself, the warranty and return right expire. Celtic WebMerchant is not responsible for the obtained result."
