Terra sigillata was the most commonly used type of earthenware in the western part of the Roman Empire for a few centuries, decorated with stamped motifs that were created in negative. Terra sigillata plates, bowls and cups are found with the most varied decorations, these could be funny in nature, or erotic, or show gods or sports scenes.This made everyday objects a lot more intriguing.

This terra sigillata drinking bowl shows the horse racing in the Circus Maximus. Horse racing was one of the favorite Roman sports.
