A beautiful seax by Windlass Steelcrafts, based on an early medieval seax from approx. 750 that is on display in the British Museum. The seax was one of the most popular weapons in the north of Europe. Many early medieval people used the seax, like the Vikings, Merovingians, Anglo-Saxons and German tribes. Originally the sax was a utility knife, but it was taken into battle when a sword was not available. It developed into a fully-fledged weapon in itself. The wooden grip is decorated with brass nails for a good grip. Both sides of the blade are etched with early medieval patterns. The semi-sharp blade is made of tempered 1055 carbon steel with a hardness of 48-52 HRC. It is delivered including a leather scabbard. Perfect for collectors and early medieval reenactment. When blunted, the blade is suitable for reenactment battles and Historical European Martial Arts.

Prevent rust and corrosion by oiling your weapons regularly. Remove rust easily with black sandpaper. Remove burrs with a whetstone. Make sure you have removed all burrs before using a battle-ready weapon, as they can cause wounds.
Maintenance & care
Just as with weaponry, you can care for your shoes and leatherware by applying a little Ballistol after cleaning. This prevents the leather from drying out.
This item is semi-sharp and designed for decorative purposes. It can be made razor sharp at a surcharge. When using the sharpening service, the return right and warranty expires. The extra delivery time is approx. 2 weeks.
The blade of this sword can be blunted (2,5-3 mm) at a surcharge. Please note: although the thickness will be the same as a battle-ready sword, the return right and warranty expires when using the blunting service. Please contact us if you wish to use the blunting service, or make a note at the last step of your shiopping cart. The extra delivery time is approx. 2 weeks.
Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.
Please note. After finishing the product yourself, the warranty and return right expire. Celtic WebMerchant is not responsible for the obtained result."
