The Grosses Messer or large knife was mainly used in the 14th and 16th century in Germany. Because it was a relatively cheap sword mostly the common people fought with it and besides they used it for daily life.

Swords like this were used by German Landsknechten in the 14th and 15th century. The length of this sword is 73 cm with a blade of 57 cm and a cross-guard of 16 x 5 cm.
