Product description

The kettle hat was a type of helmet that was used through whole Europe. It was mainly worn by infantrymen because the wide edge provided a good protection against blows from above (from cavalry) or projectiles that were thrown by the besieged. Kettle hats were worn since the beginning of the 11thcentury and were very high rated, although not in the beginning because they were not knightly enough.

This battle-ready kettle hat is made after a type from approx. 1340. The helmet is handmade of 2 mm strong steel. It has an adjustable leather inlay and a chin strap for fastening.

The helmet is available in three sizes. Size S is suitable for a head circumference up to 59 cm. Size M is suitable for a head circumference up to 61 cm and weighs 2 kg. Size L is suitable for a head circumference up to 64 cm and weighs 2,2 kg.

Maintenance & care
Prevent rust and corrosion by oiling your armour regularly. Remove rust easily with black sandpaper.

This item is produced in limited quantities only. This means that every piece is unique. Sizes & finish may vary lightly from piece to piece.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.
