The bascinet was a helmet without a visor that was worn under the Great Helmet at the beginning of the 14th century. Around 1450, the bascinet was more and more often worn independently with a visor attached. The helmet was tapered to deflect blows and as a result of the shape it is often called hounskull or pic faced bascinet. This type of helmet provides an optimal protection to the head and neck, so besides the battlefield it is also very suitable for tournaments.
