Miniature objects such as staves, Thor's hammers, fire strikes and sickles were, like miniature weapons, used as amulett worn — often several copies attached together to one ring. Such combinations are associated with the practices of the völva, the Old Norse ritual specialist; she may even have worn them on her staff, where they could make a tinkling sound during rituals. This ring is based on a find from cremation graves near Indvik, Norway, 10th century.
