This surcoat adds a grounded, realistic layer to any medieval outfit. Inspired by twelfth- and fourteenth-century clothing, this sleeveless overgarment could be found among traveling pilgrims, simple clergy, townspeople and craftsmen, but also among people of higher status.

Around the beginning of the fourteenth century, the sides of this type of garment were increasingly sewn together, gradually changing the surcoat into the sleeveless surcotte we know today. The split in the front and back of this garment provides extra freedom of movement when walking, kneeling or climbing stairs, while the slit neckline offers comfort without sacrificing formality.

Made from a light wool blend with a lining of cotton, you can put this overcoat in the colour red worn tightened with a belt for a tight, neat fit, or loose for a flowing, relaxed look over a tunic or robe. Available in sizes XS/S/M and L/XL/2XL/3XL.
