Greaves were worn over chainmail chausses and provided an additional layer of protection for the lower legs of mounted knights. The development of greaves coincided with the evolution of the shorter heater shield or knight's shield, which replaced the older, taller kite shields designed to protect the rider's leg. Heavy shields were cumbersome in combat, making the introduction of greaves in combination with the heater shield a significant innovation.

These greaves are designed to pair with other pieces from the Gustav armor line. They offer protection on the LARP field while delivering an authentic medieval look. Mix and match them easily with other armor components.
