Recommended combination
Product description
Greaves were worn over chainmail chausses and provided an extra layer of protection for the lower legs of mounted knights. The development of greaves progressed alongside the shorter kite shield or knight's shield, which replaced the older, taller heater shields that extended higher to protect the rider's leg. Heavy shields were cumbersome in battle, making the combination of greaves with the kite shield a significant innovation.
These shin guards run slightly shorter than most greaves on the market, making them a great fit for smaller adults and women. Made from 1.2 mm thick carbon steel, they feature leather straps on the back for a secure fit around the shin.
