This arming doublet is based on 15th-century originals. Worn under plate armor from the 15th century onward, arming doublets feature laces that let you attach armor pieces directly to the garment.

The arming doublet evolved from the gambeson and the 14th-century pourpoint. Its padded interior protects the body from blows transferred through the armor. In the late Gothic style (1450–1500), fighters often added voiders and a chainmail skirt (gousset) to the arming doublet. By the late 15th century in Italy, it had crossed into civilian fashion — men who weren't knights wore arming doublets, likely because the garment signaled status and knighthood.

Attach leather laces and aiglets to the doublet to fasten armor pieces securely in place. Laces at the front close the garment. The exterior is made from coarse canvas; the interior is made from breathable cotton and wool felt.
