Product description
This oval tortoise brooch is an exact reproduction of a find from Tromsø, Norway, dating from the late 7th to early 8th century. It is one of the smallest known oval tortoise brooches from the early Viking Age or late Vendel period. This tortoise brooch is made in the Germanic animal style II/D. The original is in the collection of the British Museum.
Tortoise brooches were worn by Viking women in purple, fastened to the straps of the hangerok. This reproduction is made in solid jewelry bronze with a stable needle mechanism and an extra eye at the bottom to attach a chain or pendant.
Note: the price is per piece. For an authentically worn purple you order two.
