The shoes date back to the 9th to 10th century, a time when England was divided into small kingdoms and frequently ravaged by Viking raids. During this turbulent period, many Vikings settled permanently in England. Jorvik, now modern-day York, was conquered by Danish Vikings in 866 AD and developed into a major Viking stronghold. These shoes are therefore ideal for Viking reenactment, but also suit early medieval characters.
