Viking pendant rock crystal Gotland, M, silvered bronze

Product description

This bullet-shaped pendant is a replica of a rock crystal Viking pendant.bead, found in a large treasure find at Rone, in the parish of Lye on Gotland. The original crystals may have come to Scandinavia via trade routes from Eastern Europe or the Byzantine Empire.

Rock crystal was regularly used in jewelry by the Scandinavians in the early Middle Ages. The ball on this pendant has been replaced by a hand-crafted one glass, that can hardly be distinguished from real rock crystal. The mount is made in silvered bronze.

This type of pendant has regularly been found in both women's and men's graves from the Viking Age. Some archaeologists suspect that the translucent bullet played a role in ecstatic rituals; There are even known specimens with an engraved magical spell, found in the graves of women who were priestesses. Wear the pendant on a cord or chain of your choice.
