The tricorne, or tricorn, is a triangular hat that made a splash in Europe in the 18th century and fell out of fashion by the early 19th century; the name itself only came into general use in the mid-19th century, because in the 18th century people previously referred to it as a 'cocked hat'. At the height of its popularity, the hat came in numerous variations of style and size, and was worn by the aristocracy, commoners, and uniformed military and naval personnel alike.

This tricorne is made of black wool felt. The hat has an inner band for comfort. The edges are provided with a seam.
