This triskele-shaped pendant shows three dolphins in a circle and is based on a Roman find from the 2nd-3rd century, possibly originally used as a phalera: a decorative disc on a sword belt or as a separate fitting.

The threefold arrangement is reminiscent of the Celtic triskele, which was popular among the Romans due to Celtic influences in the customary art of the late 2nd century. The triskele was considered a lucky symbol and referred, among other things, to the cycle of birth, blossoming and end. In ancient times, dolphins often played a role as helpful creatures: they are said to have saved the poet Arion of Lesbos from drowning, and were considered messengers of the sea god Poseidon.
