Roman coin opening Colosseum

Product description

The original of this replica coin is part of the collection of the British Museum in London. The coin is based on an original excavated in Rome. It dates from 80/81 AD and is made in honor of the opening of the Colosseum. The head depicts emperor Titus, he wears a toga and is possibly a spectator in the new building. In his right hand he carries a branch and in his left hand a book scroll. The coin side shows the Colosseum (Flavian Amphiteatre). It is illustrated with four floors. The second floor shows statues in the arches. Inside the building, full tribunes can be seen. Left of the Colosseum stands a high foundain (meta sudan) and on the right side a building with two floors. The inscription says: IMP T CAES Vesp AVG P-M-TR-P-P-P-COS VIII (This Roman coin was minted in honor of the completion of the Flavian amphitheatre, Colosseum, in 81 AD).
This coin is made of patinated pewter. It has a diameter of 3,5 cm.
