A bycocket - also called bycoket - was a popular hat style for men and women in Western Europe between the 13th and 16th centuries. Characteristic is the wide edge that curls up at the back and tapers at the front, like a bird's beak; In French this model is called chapeau à bec. Initially worn by nobility, later also by the merchant class, often decorated with feathers or jewels. People often wore another one under the bycocket headgear, such as a cap or veil. Nowadays the bycocket is mainly recognized from Robin Hood.
