The Normans were direct descendants of the Vikings, who settled in northern France in the 10th century. They were no less formidable than the Vikings when it came to combat prowess, courage, and martial skill. It is not surprising that their swords show the greatest similarity to those of the Vikings when compared to other swords from the high medieval period. This replica stands fully in the tradition of this particularly dynamic type of sword. Typologically, the sword is clearly classifiable as Oakshott Type X. The cross-guard is of Type No. 6 and the pommel, characteristic of Norman swords, is of Type A. The forged blade of 9260 spring steel is oil-hardened and tempered to approximately 48-50 HRC. It runs through to the pommel and is riveted at the end of the grip. The wood grip is wrapped with leather. The cross-guard is forged from steel. The fuller has a distinct full length, giving the sword great resilience and at the same time lightness. The point and edges are blunt and rounded. The sword is made entirely by hand. The sword is supplied without a scabbard.
