Under the trousers Men in the Viking Age often wore puttees, also called winingas: long strips of cloth that were wrapped around the leg from knee to ankle. They protected against cold, against wear and tear of clothing during manual labor and against brush, and also gave the outfit a recognizable, well-groomed appearance.

Archaeological finds from the port of Haithabu show that these types of bandages were generally woven in a herringbone or twill weave and placed on size manufactured, rather than cut and hemmed. Some fragments are even composed of multiple pieces of cloth, a sign that bandages were used for a long time and repaired if necessary.

These puttees are made from herringbone cotton in storm gray and are supplied as a pair, including tie cords for a secure fit. Ideal as an extra layer between clothing and armor, or simply as a practical addition to your Viking outfit for reenactment or LARP.
