Odin-amulet with ravens Blakeney, 7th century, bronze

Product description

This amulet shows one of many images of Wodan/Odin and is based on a find from Blakeney, Norfolk, dating from the 7th century. In archaeology, these types of objects are also referred to as "Wodanistic Objects in Numerous Environments". Odin was the god of the aristocracy and the warrior class, and jewelry like this was worn to protect the wearer. The runes on the top are an Old Norse custom for the amulet to give extra strength; the image shows Odin with his ravens Hugin and Munin and the ring Draupnir.

Performed in bronze, with dimensions of approx. 4.3 x 2.7 cm.
