A fillet is a narrow band of fabric, ribbon or metal which was worn around the head from classical antiquity until the Middle Ages. The band held the hair in place, served as a simple head covering and shaped the hair basic on which a veil, pennant or barbet could be attached. A fillet runs around the skull as a full band, unlike the barbet - a related but separate chin strap that was pinned on either side to hold a veil in place. Both were often worn together in the Gothic period (ca. 1200-1350).

This fillet is made of cream-colored cotton and has a circumference of approximately 56 cm; The fit can be further adjusted by the amount of fabric you wear underneath, for example a veil or headscarf. Because the band is plain, you can embellish it yourself with embroidery or textile paint. Please note that delivery only includes the fillet - a veil is not included.
