The Dürrnberg near Hallein is known for its rich archaeological finds, many of which are exhibited in the Hallein Celt Museum. This ax pendant is based on a find from Grave 77, a remarkable Iron Age grave that contained the remains of five individuals — a collective burial practice that was common on Dürrnberg. It amulet has an anthropomorphic face and the ax shape may have referred to the Celtic thunder god Taranis; Ax motifs as symbols already played a role among the Proto-Indo-European steppe herders from 3,500 BC.

Performed in bronze, with dimensions of 2.8 x 6.8 cm.
