Product description
This spectacle frame is a replica of a 14th–15th century original found in Bergen-op-Zoom in the Netherlands. Frames like these were worn throughout Europe from the 14th century onward. You can fit prescription lenses into this frame. Perfect for glasses-wearing medieval reenactors. Unlike today's glasses, these were not worn with temples in the Middle Ages — wearers simply clipped them to the nose or tied them behind the ears with leather laces. Two small holes on both sides of the frame make this possible. The glasses ship without lenses; the frames are cut at the bottom so you can pull them apart a few millimeters to insert a lens. A small braided elastic holds them closed. Alternatively, use a piece of wire, as was common in the Middle Ages.
