Product description

The earliest proven use of the gambeson dates from the late 11th to early 12th century AD, although gambesons were likely already in use during the early Middle Ages. Wear it on its own or under a hauberk. Under a hauberk, it absorbs the impact of direct blows to the body. Hauberks were sometimes so thick and tough they could even protect against arrows fired with low draw weight.

This gambeson is based on the model depicted in the Morgan Bible from 1250. Gambesons stayed popular among infantry through the 14th century, when a new type resembling a padded pourpoint took over.

Made from canvas cotton with thick padding, this gambeson measures 5 mm thick.
