Product description
This Battle-Ready Viking shield is painted with a characteristic symbol. The design comes from a rune stone in Gotland, Stenkyrka (Lillbjärs III), dating to the 9th–10th century AD. You'll find similar symbolism in various Viking jewelry. Gotland is also known for its 5th–6th century stones with sun motifs — we believe the sign on this shield is a further development of that tradition. Vikings used shields like this one all across the Viking world. The Battle-Ready Viking shield features steel reinforcement along the outer edge. This style of shield boss was used throughout the Viking world from the 9th to the 11th century. On the inside, behind the shield boss, a handle lets you grip it easily.
