New from Red Dragon — known for their high-quality HEMA plastic training swords — this line brings high-level replica historical swords to the market. Each sword ships with a leather scabbard and is made from high-quality steel hardened for performance.
This sword is based on original Oakeshott type X swords. The Oakeshott type X was a transitional design from the early medieval period, evolving out of Viking-age swords. Among the most famous examples of the type X are the so-called "Ulfberht swords," prized for their exceptional quality. Historians believe these swords were produced by one of the earliest sword makers to use his name as a brand — a tradition that lived on long after the founder's death. This replica captures a typical Ulfberht design, though the name is intentionally left off the blade.
The sword features a wooden scabbard wrapped in brown leather and a matching brown leather grip. The edge measures 1 mm thick. The blade is tempered and made from EN42J spring steel, with a core hardness of 45 HRC and an edge hardness of 50 HRC. Those two different hardness levels make the sword flexible and less brittle than comparable models. The result is a combination of excellent craftsmanship and years of HEMA experience.
