Product description
Developed in close collaboration with martial arts instructor Volker Kunkel and his West Coast Institute, this Ulfberth sword is built for sword fighting. The goal: a sturdy yet light, well-balanced combat sword at an accessible price point. Volker brought years of experience as an instructor and fencing trainer to the project. Together with their swordsmiths, the Ulfberth team translated his specifications into a Viking sword that delivers exceptional value for tournament and battle use. Modeled on original finds from 9th/10th-century Britain, it is classified as Type L under the Petersen typology for Viking swords. The blade is forged from spring steel, oil-hardened, and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of 48–52 HRC. The very wide groove gives the blade both flexibility and lightness. Cutting edges measure approximately 2–2.5mm thick, and the rounded, relatively wide tip meets tournament requirements. The sword features a typical three-lobed Viking pommel, pinned, with continuous tang construction. This is the long version.
