Product description
This classic Viking sword was designed as a tribute to Baldur, the son of Odin and Frigg. The leather grip is decorated with three runes most fitting for the Norse God: Courage, Protection and Power. The blade is made from high-quality carbon steel (1065) and etched with runes that roughly translate as "Baldur". The leather scabbard includes an integrated strap, a layer of black suede, and light brown leather accents. The top and bottom of the scabbard bear a Viking symbol for the sun — because Baldur was known as a shining light to all who knew him. In Norse mythology, Baldur was the son of Odin and Frigg, making him a brother of Thor and Loki, and destined to rule after Odin. Beloved by all gods except Loki (surprising?), Baldur brings joy to everyone he meets. Ancient Norse poetry describes his death as a tragedy and a harbinger of Ragnarok. Some scholars translate the name Baldur as "brave," which is why the rune of courage was added. Frigg asked everything in existence never to harm him (except mistletoe) in her effort to keep him safe, earning him the rune of protection. Always prepared for battle, Baldur rounds out the trio with the rune of strength.
