Product description
Numerous artifacts, weapons, and armor parts from the so-called Vendel period (ca. 550 – 800 AD) — which preceded the Viking Age — have survived the test of time. This helmet draws inspiration from various finds of the Vendel era and works equally well for Viking Age portrayals.
Hand-forged from high carbon steel, this Vendel helmet / Viking helmet showcases the defining characteristics of crested helmets from the period: a spectacle guard (a protective face plate resembling eyeglasses / spectacles) and metal strips or bands — known in German as Spangen — running from front to back and from ear to ear. Steel rivets connect the domed helmet bowl, the bands, and the face protection. Inside, the blackened interior holds a leather suspension liner, also riveted to the bowl, and a leather chin strap that closes with a brass buckle.
