Product description
This beautiful Viking shield is made from approximately 13 mm thick plywood, covered with linen, and extensively decorated with so-called triquetras (also called triquetras – trefoil or Trinity nodes) and ravens. The bird pair depicts Odin's two messengers Hugin and Munin (or Huginn and Muninn), a recurring motif in Celtic and Viking art. In Norse mythology, ravens fly over Asgard and Midgard and return each evening to the father of the gods (also called Hrafnass, the "Raven God") to report everything they have seen and heard. An umbo is mounted at the center of the shield, secured with four rivets. The back is painted black and features a sturdy wooden handle. While this wooden shield is a bit too light and thin for full-contact sword fighting, it makes a great accessory for reenactment, LARP, stage, or film and television. It also works as a striking display or exhibition piece — a decorative object for history lovers and fans of Celtic culture.
