The shield is beautifully painted with red snakes on a yellow background. In Viking mythology, the Midgard serpent is Thor's enemy. The serpent encircles the entire world, and during Ragnarok he will battle Thor to the death. When the Midgard serpent is angry, it causes earthquakes.
