Product description
The seax is a short sword used mainly by Germanic peoples and the Vikings. This type of weapon had no guard and featured a straight blade ground on one edge. Local blacksmiths — not specialized ones — made the sax, keeping it cheaper than the sword.
The sax was multifunctional. In battle, fighters used it for close combat. Out in the field, it worked like a machete for cutting plants and crops. It also served to prepare food and skin animals. The sax stands as one of the most characteristic weapons of the early Middle Ages. According to the Icelandic sagas, the Vikings even preferred the sax over the sword.
This sax has a beautifully authentic hand-forged finish and a striking grip of wood and bone. It comes with a brown leather sheath fitted with a belt loop so you can hang it on your belt.
