Product description
This decorative and practical Viking ear spoon is based on a historical find from Gotland, featuring a similar design. Cast from high-quality bronze.
The original model dates back to the 8th–9th century and features a bearded face with two ravens, likely representing Odin, the father of the gods. Viking women commonly wore ear spoons as part of their attire, often paired with tweezers and prickers as an essential grooming kit. Archaeologists have discovered these items across many Viking settlements.
Women typically attached the ear spoon to a long chain or leather strap on oval brooches, hanging at belt level for easy access. The spoon measures 7 x 1 cm. Small thorns, awls, and fine bronze tweezers served personal hygiene needs as far back as the Bronze Age and even appeared among medical tools in Egypt and Rome. Germanic and Viking peoples alike relied on these items to maintain hygiene and beauty.
