Product description
This buckle draws inspiration from the Jellinge art style (890–990). It has a silver-colored finish and fits a belt strap 3 cm wide. It measures 7.5 x 4 cm.
The ribbon-animal decoration, the heads shown in profile, the almond-shaped eyes, and the animal biting its own body are all hallmarks of the Viking Jellinge art style. This buckle is inspired by historical examples and has an elegant look. The Jellinge style spread across the entire Viking world and appears in every European country where Vikings traveled during the 10th century.
The animal on this buckle is the Midgardsorm, or Midgard snake. Thor had a feud with the Midgardsorm. Old Norse mythology predicted that Thor and the Midgardsorm would kill each other at Ragnarök, the end of the old world — and that Odin would be devoured by the wolf Fenrir.
