Product description
This fitting is based on a historical original excavated in Smolensk. Made in the Borre art style (825–970), it works great for decorating belts and bags. It measures 4.5 x 4.5 cm and is bronze colored.
The fitting is executed in the Borre style, featuring the typical Borre gripping-beasts en face.
In Viking culture, it was common to take objects from other cultures and give them a new context. This fitting is a prime example. In Frankish culture, men used the trifold fitting to decorate their sword belt. Among the Vikings, this trifold fitting was more elaborately decorated and took on a female context — worn as decoration on the belt or as jewelry.
