Introducing the Signature Series by Windlass! Among our all-time favorites, these swords are reissued by Windlass Steelcrafts® with several upgrades. The blade features improved distal taper, making it livelier and quicker. The scabbard now has a wooden core under the leather exterior. The grip uses leather dimpled by a historically authentic "wet-wrap" process: fine cord is tightly wrapped around a wet leather grip, then removed once dry, leaving the leather attractively indented for improved texture and grip.In the winter of 1461, the yet uncrowned Edward IV marched a large Yorkist army (the white rose of the "War Of The Roses") northward to attack the Lancastrian forces (the red rose) of the legitimate King Henry VI. Although the Yorkists launched an attack on the Lancastrians' strong uphill position at Towton, a blinding snowstorm at their backs worked in their favor — Yorkist archers could kill at ranges the Lancastrian arrows couldn't match. The 20,000 royalists charged downhill into their tormentors. Over the next six hours, thousands fell in one of the bloodiest battles ever fought on English soil. We named this sword for that fearsome battle.
The blade tapers to an excellent stabbing point and is fullered along most of its length for lightning speed. On foot, use it two-handed to deliver devastating cuts and thrusts. From horseback, its perfect balance and weight still allow for one-handed blows of equal devastation. The long graceful pommel, wood and leather grip are nicely complemented by the elegant curves of the crossguard — truly a joy to hold. Flexible and well-tempered, this is sure to become one of your new favorites.
