This thread spool replicates a 16th-century original recovered from the Tudor flagship The Mary Rose. It comes in two parts, so you can wind two types of thread at once. The inside is hollow, just like the historic bobbin of the Mary Rose, and closes with a wooden stopper. Store multiple sewing needles inside so you never lose them. The Mary Rose was an English warship built in Portsmouth between 1509 and 1511 AD. The ship sank as early as 1545 in the Solent, a branch of the English Channel, during a naval battle against the French during the Italian War of 1542–1546. Researchers recovered the wreck in 1982 — part of it is excellently preserved — and you can visit it today at Portsmouth Harbour. The recovery yielded about 19,000 objects, including 137 yew longbows, numerous medical instruments, and a large number of the sailors' household items and personal artifacts.
