Product description
This is a replica of the well-known Holy Lance, also known as the Spear of Destiny. See the original at the Hofburg in Vienna. In the 10th century, the spear came into the possession of the Holy Roman emperors. Hendrik IV applied the silver ribbon inscribed 'Nail of the Lord' in 1084. In 1273, the lance was first used during coronations. Around 1350, Charles I placed a golden case over the silver one, engraved with the words 'Lancea et clavus Domini' (Lance and Nail of the Lord).
The spearhead is wrapped with silver thread and a brass casing, and comes with a velvet sheath. Made from carbon steel, it measures 47 cm in total length and weighs about 950 grams. This spear is sold without a shaft.
