This beautiful decorative sword is a great addition for early medieval sword enthusiasts. Based on an original sword hilt from the seventh century found in the Sutton Hoo ship-burial, this replica brings a remarkable piece of history to life. The most famous finds from this burial site are the buckle and the Sutton Hoo helmet, but excavations have uncovered many other fascinating objects that shed light on the world of the noble Anglo-Saxons. Some archaeologists believe this was the resting place of King Raedwald of East Anglia, and that the objects were meant for use in the hereafter. Because the blade of the original sword has been lost, this replica features a common type of early medieval blade with a long, broad fuller. Just like the original, the grip is made from different parts riveted together. It consists of a wooden core wrapped in high-quality brown leather and decorated with brass fittings engraved with spiral-shaped early medieval art motifs. The pommel and guard are wooden discs, each flanked by a brass disc on either side. The pommel is crafted in typical early medieval style with red enamel in cloisonné — small brass compartments into which molten glass is poured. The sword comes with a brown leather scabbard with a wooden core, decorated with brass fittings and a belt loop so you can hang it on your belt.
