Product description
Rotella shields were primarily used during the Renaissance (16th–17th centuries). Inspired by the round shields of classical antiquity, they appear frequently in Greek and Roman art. Spanish and Italian masters—including Di Grassi and Marozzo—wrote manuals explaining how to fight with the rotella. These shields saw use across Renaissance Europe, often paired with a side sword or a spear.
A beautiful replica from Windlass Steelcrafts. At 59 cm in diameter, this rotella is smaller and more manageable than full-sized shields. The compact size makes it faster to handle, which is why many soldiers preferred smaller shields. Made from 18-gauge steel, it features a leather grip on the back. Perfect for historical characters from the 16th–17th centuries and for sword fighting.
